It could be – if you are a meticulous, experienced, A-Player accountant who is fanatic about numbers and precision.
The perfect accounting job – for the right person.
Ndiorah Microfinance Bank is not your typical bank. We are a digital private bank that offers one of the safest and most transparent bank accounts in the world.
We obtained our banking license in 2017 to operate as an International Financial Entity in Puerto Rico.
Because of COVID-19, the team is currently working remotely, so this is a remote role for now.
Once the lock-down is less strict here on the island, you’ll join the team to work out of our newly remodeled office in Santurce.
Some background about us…
Modern banking is broken. And we are bringing it back to the way it’s SUPPOSED to be: safe, transparent, and relationship-oriented.
We offer deposit accounts, secured loans, and electronic funds transfers. We operate 100% digitally to our customers who are located all over the world.
And our clients choose us because of our ability to solve their problems, add value delivered as a great experience by a team of A-players.
Our operations have grown a lot in the past year, and it’s time to bring our accounting in-house.
That’s why we need to hire a rockstar accountant who is well-versed in Puerto Rico and US taxes for a bank and who recognizes life doesn’t come with an instruction manual.
We’re a small team, and everyone wears a lot of hats. In your case, you will not only be keeping the books and tax filings, but you’ll also be involved with some back-office operations, designing, building, and documenting systems, and regulatory reporting.
In this role, you’ll have a significant amount of autonomy and the chance to be a part of a bank that puts the client first. The way banking should be done.
So what’s in it for you?
You’ll be working with some of the most inspiring people you’ve met: prolific and reputable businessman and investor James Hickman, former Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan employees, seasoned lawyers, creative marketers and most of all, effective problem solvers.
You’ll be exposed to a wealth of knowledge. Even from our weekly team meetings, you’ll get to learn about negotiating, financial education, deal structuring, tax efficiencies, setting up international structures, investing and so much more.
We recruit people who are not just brilliant, but those who are positive, motivated, take ownership of goals and work hard to create their own realities. We know that A players attract other A players.
We believe that the traditional 9-5 work schedule is a relic of the past.
While there’s always work to do, we don’t have a (digital) punch card for you to clock in at 9 AM each morning.
The official company time zone is Atlantic Standard Time, but while the job is remote you are free to work from any location in the world and have a lot of freedom to arrange your workday in a way that suits you — as long as you are delivering excellent work and able to fulfill your responsibilities in a timely fashion.
This is not your typical work environment. Everyone on the team wears multiple hats and this role is no different.
While the core responsibilities will include preparing and filing tax forms and financial statements, there are a number of projects we need a detail-oriented, analytical person to work on as well.
The ideal candidate with have the skills and motivation to be involved in helping build the bank from the ground-up and helping run it like a well-oiled machine. You will bring things into existence that did not exist the day before.
Because of this, the ideal candidate sees themself as more than just an accountant. We are a small, close-knit team, and everyone wears many hats.
You have to be able to teach yourself. Self-study is the ability to learn by yourself without anybody teaching you, and is critical to succeed in this role.
Many parts of this role, like life, do not come with an instruction manual. Yes, there will be guidelines and specific desired outcomes, but you get to design how the results are achieved. You will make decisions that will impact the business for years to come.
If you want a cushy remote job that you can do the bare minimum and get by, this is not the right job for you. If you want a role that challenges you to grow and develop both yourself and the business, keep reading.
In most jobs, you learn the ropes once, and then keep doing the same things over and over again. That’s not how we work at Ndiorah Microfinance Bank.
As an independent bank, we are disrupting the banking industry, and the key to our success is that we’re always learning and improving everything we do.
All members of our team are committed to lifelong learning. Whether it’s something that will help us perform better at work, understand the financial system better, build better relationships, lead a healthier life, whatever it is…
We invest in the long-term success of our team members. We offer resources and educational courses for you to continuously improve and develop your skills — both personally and professionally.
We look at professional development as a long-term investment in our team and our business. And this is why your development is so important to our organization.
Join us and you’ll work for a company you can actually grow with.
This is an exciting full-time opportunity at a private bank headquartered in paradise in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
You’ll work with a great team to achieve clearly defined quarterly goals and help us stay on track with our business.
We run on a meritocracy: the more value you provide, the more we will be able to reward you.
On top of a negotiable salary, we also offer:
While the specifics of the role may vary based on your specific skill-set, there are a number of responsibilities that you will be expected to perform as a baseline to the role.
Every day will involve maintaining the books and records of the bank and typical days will involve preparing and filing tax and regulatory reports and financial statements.
You can expect to spend no less than 20% of your time working on projects that will change over time depending on the business need and your individual skills.
The right person will have a few marked characteristics:
As you’ve probably noticed by now, this is not like the average career listing… because we’re not looking for an average person.
We’ve done our best to both attract the best person for the role, and repel anyone who is not right for it (like any good marketing message should).
The ball is now in your court.
Below, you’ll find a form that’s been specifically designed for this role (please choose the right one from the list), and fill it in, in detail.
We will shortly followup with a series of responses including a first review, testing, a phone interview, a 2-3 hour in-person interview, and more.
An A-Player will breeze through the application process, whereas a B-Player will not.
One final message before we finish: If you don’t have a strong interest in learning and personal development, you will, unfortunately, find that you’ll be left behind by the growth of the rest of the team. We ask that you please do not apply for this role.
You’ll also need to read through our Hiring page if you haven’t already – this shares exactly what our company’s core values are and the problem we’re solving. It’s important that anyone who applies for this job understands the direction we’re going and wants to be a part of it.
